This mother & child are golden-headed lion tamarins, a kind of monkey found only in Brazil. Because it lives exclusively in the Brazilian state of Bahia, it is considered to be an endangered species. Its preferred habitat is the forest.
The golden-headed lion tamarin lives within group sizes ranging from 2 to 11 individuals, and the average sizes ranges from 4 to 7. Not much is known about its mating system, but it is assumed that tamarins practice both monogamous & polyandrous mating systems. Both males & females invest energy in caring for their young, and all members of the group also help with juvenile care.
