Species: Though the number of species of wolves is debates, there are believes to be 5-7 different species including the Grey, Red, Eastern, Ethiopian, Himalayan, and Maned wolf. Scientist believe there are about 32 subspecies of Wolf.
Lifespan: In the wild, Wolves live to be between 5 and 8 years old.
Size & Weight: Grey wolves are the largest species of wolf. A full grown Grey wolf can weigh up to 85 lbs and can be up to 6 ft long from their nose to the tip on their tail. The smallest species of wolf is the Mexican wolf, which grows to be about 4-5 ft long and between 60-80 lbs.
Habitat: Wolves live in many different habitats. The Ethiopian and Mexican wolves live in warm arid climates, whereas the Arctic wolf lives in cold climates.
Diet: Wolves are primarily carnivores, which means that they mostly eat meat. They typically feed on rabbits, birds, snakes, deer, elf, fish, lizards, and even fruit. A wolf can eat up to 20 lbs of meat in one sitting!
Family Life: Wolves are pack animals. They travel in a pack of 6-10 other wolves. The wolfpack consists of a dominant male and his mate leading the other wolves. Only the leader and his mate are allowed to mate, and the other wolves help provide for their young. A pack of wolves will roam an area of about 12 miles per day looking for prey.
