These are wonderful scavenger birds. Although they don't get much adoration.... they SHOULD! While doing their job, cleaning up the dead and dying carcasses, they keep diseases from taking hold in the avian population and our own. Their stomachs have a kind of "battery acid" fluid to break down anything that passes over their gullet. Also, that distinctive bald head keeps blood and rotting guts from sticking to them. I find them oddly beautiful and their chicks are super cute too. This one looks like he's wearing a feather collar on his bomber jacket! Great shot!
