This is Bar-Jac Hula Fan Dancer. (Bar-Jac is the name of the kennel that she came from.) She was born on January 4, 2001. She passed away (at home in her sleep) on June 30, 2011. We'd thought we would have at least 2 more years with her, but illness changed that.
Her original name was Fannie, but we decided to call her Annie. She was steady, gentle, vibrant, & delightfully opinionated about some things. She loved people. When we went on walks together, she was friendly and outgoing.
I often thought she would make a great therapy dog, but she had one major flaw. She was Not friendly to lawn mowers. I could imagine her gently putting her front paws on someone's bed at an assisted living center--- and then leaping Over the bed and out the window to attack an innocent mower that started puttering. Since people in assisted living centers don't need protection from lawn mowers, I gave up on the idea.
This is the collie who inspired me to choose the Designer name CollieSmile. She is the collie that I use as my Avatar also. My memories of her are joyful ones.
Now I have a lively tricolored smooth collie named Katie. She was given to us by a sympathetic breeder, one month after Annie passed. She was just what I needed. She has a different personality than Annie did, but she is special in her own right.
I love dogs, cats, and all animals. But if somebody asked me if collies had a very special place in my heart, I would be happily guilty as charged.

Bar-Jac is the kennel that bred Annie. Barbara and Jack, the couple that bred her, put their names together to form the name of their kennel.
Annie had a splash of white at the top of her neck that looked like just like a fan! You can see a hint of it in the photograph. Most pedigree dogs have call names, since their registered names are so long. The breeder's call name for her was "Fannie", but we changed it to Annie, because I liked that name better.
Bar-Jac Hula Fan Dancer! As I said, ...she must have been quite a treasure! I understood the "Bar-Jac" part, but just HOW does a DOG get the wild moniker "Hula Fan Dancer"?? Ha! Great name, and a gorgeous pooch! Thanks! -Cassandra. fav+1
