The badgers are a group of marten-like predators. This group includes about 10 species in 6 genera, mostly in three subfamilies, being the Taxidiinae (with one species, the zilverdas from North America), the Melinae (8 species Eurasian badgers, including the European badger) and Mellivorinae (with a living species, the honey badger from Africa and Southwest Asia). Some places all species in the subfamily Mustelinae, with among others the real martens (Martes) and weasel family (Mustela). Ties are generally strong, heavily built, omnivorous animals with short legs. On the front legs are long digging claws. The primitive solar badgers (Melogale) from southern Asia are smaller and slimmer than the other species. All ties have a distinctive face drawing. The muzzle is often elongated. Most species are solitary, with the exception of the European badger, in family groups living in a castle. The European badger digs even the most complex of corridors, other types of badger digging a hole lot simpler
