The golden-mantled ground squirrel is a small chipmunk-like squirrel with grayish-brown fur on top with two white stripes bordered by black stripes on its sides. It has a lighter underside. Its head, face, front paws and chest are a coppery red.
The golden-mantled ground squirrel can be found in southeastern British Columbia in Canada south to New Mexico and Southern California.
The golden-mantled ground squirrel can be found in coniferous and mixed coniferous-hardwood forests. It is common in mountainous areas up to the timberline. It can be found in places with rocky meadows and in sagebrush areas.
It does seem to be a chipmunk, but it doesn't look like the ones we have here in the Southern USA. They run all over my backyard, and fill their cheeks with sunflower seeds from my bird feeders. I love to watch them!
This certainly looks like a chipmunk, but this kind does not live in my part of the country. (Michigan, USA.) It might be a chipmunk from another part of the United States, or from another country.
Whatever it is, this rodent is a member of the squirrel family. Squirrels that move about on the ground are called ground squirrels, and tree squirrels move about mostly in the trees.
My vote is that this is indeed a chipmunk. (ground squirrel.) I wish I could tell you what kind. Maybe somebody else can.
Anyway, I love all the members of the squirrel family, and I like this wall very much! f +1
