Kittens Don't Keep

Of housework and errands, I have quite a list
Carefully written so nothing is missed
Put in the laundry and set out the trash
Run to the market and back in a flash.
Vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning the house,
But first, I must buy... a fat catnip mouse!
I know I've got chores, but my thoughts can't help straying
So I'm back in the kitten room, blissfully playing.

Oh, there are some errands I really should do
(chase the mouse, can't catch me, oh, look at you!).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(pat-a-paw, darlings, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
and out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
but each time I see them they do something new.
Eyes full of wonder, a fresh point of view -
I'm seeing the world through their eyes, anew
(soft purring kitty pile, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
for kittens grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm here with my kittens and kittens don't keep.
