Do you know what he/she is doing? It is testing the pot for a scent from another cat. If it finds none, it will leave its own. There are several scent glands on a cat. Two in the corners of its mouth, one on each front shoulder, and one near their butt. This is why they can do the "Cat Yoga" manuver so well.......

This little guy is smelling to see if any other cat has "marked it" as his/her territory. Their scent glands are located in the corners of their mouth, along their sides, and in their butt regions. Do I know too much about cats? Yes, I do. I'm more a cat person than a dog person! And I can speak their tongue.....
